Tomoko Nagao is the most important MicroPop and SuperFlat exponent in Italy, deeply influenced by Nara Yoshimoto’s and Takashi Murakami’s art. Her artistic practice is innovative, with a constant ironic reinterpretation of themes and subjects taken from the great Western pictorial tradition on the one hand, and from popular and consumerist iconography, both Western and Eastern, on the other.
In this painting Tomoko reinterprets the famous Medusa by Caravaggio, a recurring subject in the artist’s works. The artwork is seen in a pop key, using the communication method of kawaii aesthetics, which makes a vision of the world fantastic, serene, light and colorful.
